Since massage & bodywork varies from experience to experience, the purpose of this introduction is to give you a general sense of what to expect in your first session. I hope that your experience is both enjoyable and beneficial, and that this will be the beginning of a lifelong practice to help keep you healthy, relaxed, and enjoying life.

~ I am currently offering massage & healing sessions at 3474 N. High Street, Suite F, Columbus, OH 43214. Hours are by appointment only. I do also travel to your home or office setting.      

~ If you have not completed an intake form (available for download below), please expect to do so when you first arrive. I will review the form with you, discussing any health issues, concerns, or expectations either of us may have about the massage. After the intake is complete, the remaining time will be devoted to the massage itself. 

About Your Comfort

Before each session, we will have a brief discussion of your current health and goals for that day. The music, lighting, temperature and massage table should all be conducive to your relaxation. If you have a favorite massage lotion or music CD, you are welcome to bring it with you. Many clients are unsure whether they should be clothed or unclothed for a massage. Whether or not you wear clothing, or how much clothing you wear, is entirely your decision. I am sensitive to your need for privacy, and will keep your body covered with a sheet at all times, except for the area being worked on. After undressing to your comfort level, get on the table and cover yourself with the top sheet. I will check with you before I come into the room to be sure you are ready. Please speak up immediately if you are uncomfortable in any way. 

Your Massage Session

Once the massage begins, close your eyes and allow yourself to relax as completely as possible. Focus on your breathing, which should be slow, deep and even. Allow yourself to be fully present to the sensations in your body. When my hands locate areas of tension in your body, consciously try to relax those areas. As you inhale deeply, visualize each breath flowing into the tense area and relaxing it. As you exhale, visualize the tension leaving your body. Allow your body to feel heavy and sink into the table. Please speak up if anything I do is too painful or ticklish, or uncomfortable in any way. Sometimes as the body releases tension during a massage, the mind will release emotion. If you suddenly feel sad, angry, or joyful, do not be alarmed. Allow yourself to express these feelings by crying, or laughing, or sighing with the release. Many people feel hungry, or fall asleep during a massage, indications that the body and mind are releasing stress and tension. I will gently wake you when it is time to turn over or end the session.

After Your Session

When the massage is over, I will leave the room to wash my hands and to allow you some time to rouse yourself and dress. Once you have dressed, I will return to discuss how the session went for you. We will discuss a treatment plan, and I may share some ideas for home-care, for you to maximize the benefits of your session. You may want to drink plenty of water after receiving any bodywork. Your body requires plenty of water to process the circulatory and metabolic changes that occur with massage. Massage strongly affects circulation, and can release toxins and cellular waste held in your body, in the much the same way strenuous exercise does. Due to this, people occasionally experience mild soreness the day after a massage. If this occurs, it should pass within a day or so, after which time, you are likely to feel better than ever. Drinking plenty of water may help to alleviate or avoid such aches altogether. Please feel free to call me with any questions.

**Before we begin any bodywork at your initial session, you will be asked to complete two forms: a health intake form and a privacy notice. I will provide these forms for you, or you are welcome to download, print, complete and bring them with you. Thank you.**


In the interest of establishing the best relationship possible with my clients, I am providing you with the following summary of my business policies. If you have questions regarding any of these policies, please feel free to ask. I believe that clear communication provides the best basis for a good working relationship. You may expect that I will use clean, quality equipment and supplies. I will customize my treatments to meet your needs, and refer you to the appropriate specialist when in your best interest. 

Intake: You may expect your first session to include approximately 10 minutes for completing the intake process. You will be expected to complete a brief questionnaire regarding your health. We will discuss that form, as wells as your goals and expectations for our work together. In the course of the intake process it becomes apparent that massage may not be advisable for you due to health concerns, I will end the session at that point. There will be no charge to you in such cases. I will recommend that you have your primary health care provider evaluate your condition, and I will want to know the results of that evaluation before I would consider giving you massage. This policy ensures that any work I do for you will be beneficial, and not harmful.

Rates: Vary with type and length of appointment. Please inquire upon scheduling. Gift certificates are available for any occasion. Payment in full is expected at the time of treatment, unless prior arrangements have been made between us. I accept cash or checks. There will be a $25 fee for returned checks. I do not accept insurance for payment. However, I am very willing to work with you to help you get reimbursed for your massage therapy treatment. At your request, I will supply receipts, case records, and written reports of treatment to your doctors, lawyers or insurance companies. (Insurance companies and legal companies will be charged the appropriate and customary clerical fees for these services.)    

Availability: I am available, with flexible hours, for appointments in my office or at your location. To have a better chance of getting in when you would like, please schedule appointments a week or more in advance. I am available by voice mail or text message anytime, and will respond to you as soon as possible. You may also schedule online by clicking here.  

Tardiness or Cancellations: Sessions begin and end at scheduled times. Sessions begun late due to the client’s tardiness end at the scheduled time and are full price. Please make cancellations as soon as you know you won’t be able to make the appointment. If less than 24 hours notice is given, you may be expected to pay for the session. This charge will be waived if a replacement can be found for your appointment time. If I need to cancel an appointment, I will do so as soon as possible. If an emergency arises and this occurs, I will provide a discount for the next session.

Confidentiality: Clients are always treated with respect and dignity. Your privacy and boundaries are respected at all times. All client information, records, chart notes, and conversations within the context of the massage session are kept confidential, and will not be released to anyone without your written permission, except as required by law.
